Amman Marriott Hotel Reopens After Extensive Renovation, Emphasizing Sustainability and Cultural Design

The Amman Marriott Hotel officially reopened on 10 June 2026 after a comprehensive renovation that reshaped its guest rooms, public spaces and dining venues. The hotel, which first opened in 1982, is a long‑standing fixture of Amman’s hospitality scene and now offers 292 rooms and suites that blend contemporary comfort with Jordanian design motifs.

The refurbishment replaced every guest room and suite with new furnishings, larger windows and locally inspired artwork. Public areas were redesigned in earthy tones that echo the Jordanian landscape, and modern technology was integrated throughout to enhance service efficiency. Five distinct dining venues were introduced, including Il Terrazzo Ora, a contemporary Italian restaurant, and the Piano Lounge, a relaxed social space. The hotel also expanded its event facilities, adding meeting rooms and wedding venues equipped with advanced audiovisual systems.

Sustainability is a core element of the new property. The Amman Marriott is one of the few Marriott hotels in Jordan that operates entirely on solar power. A photovoltaic array on the roof generates approximately 1,239,000 kWh of electricity each year, while the hotel’s annual consumption is about 1,177,000 kWh, allowing excess energy to be sold back to the national grid. In addition, the hotel holds a Green Key certification, a global eco‑label that verifies compliance with strict environmental standards.

The renovation also coincided with a staffing update. The hotel appointed Angelos Athanasiou, a Greek chef with 20 years of culinary experience, as executive sous‑chef for its Paros Garden restaurant. This move underscores the hotel’s commitment to culinary excellence and international collaboration.

The reopening comes at a time when Jordan’s tourism sector is recovering from the pandemic downturn. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, tourism contributed 14.6 % of Jordan’s GDP in 2023, and the government has been encouraging investment in hospitality infrastructure. The Amman Marriott’s upgraded facilities and sustainability credentials position it as a competitive option for business travelers, conference organisers and leisure visitors.

Marriott International, the parent company, operates more than 9,000 hotels worldwide. The Amman Marriott’s transformation aligns with the group’s broader strategy to enhance food and beverage offerings and to embed sustainability across its portfolio.

The hotel’s reopening signals a renewed commitment to high‑quality service, modern design, and environmental responsibility, ensuring it remains a trusted home away from home for both international guests and local residents.
