MASkargo and Qatar Airways Cargo Launch Twice-Weekly Freighter Link Between Kuala Lumpur, Bengaluru and Doha
In a move that could reshape freight flows across Asia, MASkargo – the cargo arm of Malaysia Airlines – has partnered with Qatar Airways Cargo to launch a dedicated twice‑weekly freighter service that stitches together Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Bengaluru (BLR) and Doha (DOH). The new KUL‑BLR‑DOH‑KUL loop is operated by Qatar’s Boeing 777 freighters, adding 200 tonnes of cargo capacity each week.
The service carries a diverse mix of goods, from general cargo and perishables to pharmaceuticals and high‑value items. By marrying MASkargo’s extensive Asian network with Qatar Airways Cargo’s global reach, the partnership offers shippers direct access to key markets in Asia, Europe and North America via the hubs of Kuala Lumpur and Bengaluru.
Since its launch in early July 2026, the route has already moved more than 1,000 tonnes of freight, underscoring robust demand for a reliable corridor that can accommodate time‑sensitive and high‑value shipments.
"The collaboration reflects MASkargo’s commitment to strengthening Kuala Lumpur’s position as a strategic cargo gateway connecting Asia with key global trade lanes," said Mark Jason Thomas, chief executive officer of MASkargo. "It enables us to leverage our combined strengths to deliver greater connectivity, flexibility and value for customers," he added, noting that the partnership supports the company’s broader growth ambitions.
MASkargo’s long‑term strategy centers on bolstering Kuala Lumpur’s role as a regional cargo hub through increased connectivity, strategic alliances and customer‑focused logistics solutions. The new freighter link fits squarely into that vision by providing a dedicated, high‑capacity route that meets the evolving demands of global trade.
Qatar Airways Cargo, a subsidiary of Qatar Airways, operates a fleet of more than 200 aircraft, including the Boeing 777F. The 777F is a long‑range, twin‑engine freighter that can haul up to 113 tonnes per flight, ensuring the KUL‑BLR‑DOH service can accommodate everything from temperature‑controlled perishables to oversized industrial goods.
The partnership also benefits Bengaluru, whose cargo volumes grew 6 % in fiscal year 2026. As an emerging e‑commerce and pharmaceutical hub, the city is a magnet for high‑value freight, and the new link offers a direct, high‑capacity bridge to Kuala Lumpur and Doha, smoothing trade flows between South Asia and the Middle East.
Regionally, the route fortifies trade lanes that connect Southeast Asia with the Gulf and beyond. Kuala Lumpur already serves as a major cargo hub for Malaysia, handling a significant share of the country’s air freight. Adding Doha as a third hub expands Malaysian cargo’s reach to European and North American markets through Qatar’s global network.
The launch of the KUL‑BLR‑DOH route follows a broader industry trend of airlines establishing dedicated freighter services to meet rising demand for time‑critical and high‑value cargo. Similar initiatives have appeared elsewhere, such as Qatar Airways Cargo’s weekly freighter service to Yerevan and Tbilisi.
In sum, the twice‑weekly freighter link between Kuala Lumpur, Bengaluru and Doha marks a significant step for MASkargo and Qatar Airways Cargo. It injects 200 tonnes of weekly capacity, supports a wide cargo mix, and reinforces Kuala Lumpur’s standing as a key logistics gateway in Asia. The partnership is poised to grow further as the need for reliable, high‑capacity freight corridors intensifies across the region.
