Aseer Region Launches Interactive Digital Map to Boost 2026 Summer Tourism Season

On the very day the Aseer Region celebrated the opening of its 2026 summer season, the Aseer Region Development Authority (ASDA) unveiled a cutting‑edge interactive digital map that will guide visitors through the region’s rich tapestry of events and landscapes.

The map, embedded within the “Discover Aseer” platform, offers real‑time updates on tourism routes, venues, and activities across the governorates of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Bisha and Al Majaridah, allowing travelers to navigate the region with unprecedented ease.

The launch was timed to coincide with the official inauguration of the season, held before Governor Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz. In partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, the Saudi Tourism Authority and the National Events Centre, the season—titled “Live the Sky”—will run from 25 June to 24 August and feature more than 122 cultural, artistic, entertainment, sports and family‑focused events. Officials say the programme is designed to draw over three million visitors.

ASDA officials explained that the digital map is part of a broader strategy to enhance the visitor experience by centralising information and streamlining itinerary planning. The interface displays live event schedules, venue locations and suggested routes, enabling guests to tailor their trips and discover highlights such as the historic Shadda Palace in Abha, the picturesque Al Majaridah Valley and the rugged Asir Mountains.

The Aseer Region, spanning 76,693 km² in southwestern Saudi Arabia, houses about two million residents. Its mild climate and alpine scenery make it a sought‑after domestic destination, and tourism is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 diversification agenda. ASDA, which coordinates regional development projects, has recently joined the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to champion a sustainable tourism model that expands green spaces and safeguards wildlife.

During the opening ceremony in Abha, Prince Turki praised the Authority’s role in transforming Aseer into a year‑round destination and thanked the Crown Prince for continued support of the region’s development.

The Ministry of Tourism has actively promoted domestic travel since the introduction of the tourist visa in 2019. In 2026, the kingdom’s tourism sector is projected to reach a record 122 million visitors and a spend of SAR 300 billion, according to the latest growth report. The Aseer Summer Season 2026 is positioned as a flagship event to showcase the region’s cultural heritage and natural attractions, contributing to the national goal of attracting more than three million visitors.

The interactive map will also interface with the National Events Centre’s scheduling system, allowing users to book experiences directly. Its design prioritises user‑friendly navigation, offering filters by event type, location and date. Real‑time traffic data and public transport schedules are embedded, helping travelers plan efficient routes between destinations.

In addition to the 122 scheduled events, the season will feature 100 bookable experiences, ranging from guided hikes in the Asir Mountains to traditional music concerts in Abha’s historic square. These activities aim to appeal to families, adventure seekers and cultural enthusiasts alike.

ASDA has stated that the digital map and the season’s events will stimulate local economies by boosting spending in hospitality, retail and cultural sectors. The Authority will also monitor visitor feedback through the platform to refine future tourism initiatives.

The launch of the interactive map and the opening of the Aseer Summer Season 2026 illustrate a coordinated effort by regional and national bodies to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s tourism infrastructure and position the Asir region as a leading destination for domestic and international visitors. After the season concludes on 24 August, ASDA will review attendance figures and event outcomes to inform the planning of the next summer season and enrich the regional economy.
